Investigation after bag suspected to contain cocaine found at Baldonnel airbase

An investigation has been launched after a bag suspected to contain cocaine was found at the Baldonnel airbase.

According to a Defence Forces source, the bag was found outside the Officers’ Mess car park last night.

A spokesperson for the Air Corps said: “I can confirm that an unknown substance was recovered in an area of unused ground in Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel.

“A Military Police investigation has commenced.

“Óglaigh na hÉireann does not comment on ongoing Military Police Investigations.”

Five staff at Air Corps HQ tested positive for drugs

Five military personnel at the Casement Aerodrome have tested positive for listed drugs following a series of random tests.

Documents obtained by The Times under freedom of information legislation showed that just over 500 substance tests have been carried out at the base in Baldonnel, southwest of Dublin, since 2013. In each year since then, one person has tested positive.

Irish Army Air Corps pilot suspended after admitting taking cocaine before random drug test

An Air Corps pilot has been placed on administrative leave after admitting to taking cocaine, TheJournal.ie can reveal.

The experienced pilot was at work in Baldonnel Airfield on Monday when random drugs test was announced. Before he could be tested, the pilot admitted that he had cocaine in his system. The test still went ahead and the Defence Forces have opened disciplinary procedures.
